Got Guts Race Questions

Q: Can I register to run on race day?

A: Yes indeed. Race day registration and packet pickup opens at 6:30 am. Please note: if you want to register on race day for the timed 5K run and be eligible for an award, please make sure you are at the registration table (or in line) by 7:40 am on race morning. top ⇑

Q: When is the last day I can register online?

A: Saturday, Septmeber 11th at 5pm. top ⇑

Q: When is Packet Pickup?

Q: Is there a Got Guts Happy Hour at Packet Pickup?

A: Yes! Sponsored by REDBRIDGE beer (yes, we will have free REDBRIDGE), and hosted by Rogue Equipment. Got Guts registration will also be available. Plus we'll have live background music and gluten–free snacks.

Packet Pick up will be Friday Sept. 10th from 10am to 8pm with Happy Hour from 4pm to 8pm. top  ⇑

Q: What items are included in the race packets?

A: Each runner will receive a packet containing his or her race number, race information, Got Guts t-shirt, information from our sponsors, PureFit and Kind Bars, and other goodies.  top ⇑

Q: Where will the Got Guts race take place? And how do I get there?

A: The Got Guts race events will take place at Walter E. Long Park, located at 6614 Blue Bluff Rd., Austin, Texas.

If you are coming from the north:

  1. Take IH–35 South to 183 South
  2. Continue on 183 South
  3. Turn left at Loyola Ln., which becomes Decker Lake Rd.
  4. Turn left at Blue Bluff Rd.
  5. Walter E. Long Park will be on your left
If you are coming from the south:
  1. Take IH–35 North to 290 ⁄ 71 East
  2. Continue on 71 East
  3. Exit Lockhart Hwy ⁄ 183 South
  4. Follow 183 South
  5. Turn right at FM 969 ⁄ Martin Luther King Blvd.
  6. Turn left at Decker Ln.
  7. Turn right at Decker Lake Rd.
  8. Turn left at Blue Bluff Rd.
  9. Walter E. Long Park will be on your left

Q: Where do I park on race day?

A: Free parking is available on site at Walter E. Long Park.  top ⇑

Q: What time do the Got Guts races start?

A: Got Guts consists of two racing events:

  • Kids 1k, starts at 8:00 am
  • 5k trail run⁄walk, starts at 8:20 am
The awards ceremony will take place near the finish line at 9:00 a.m.  top ⇑

Q: Will the Got Guts events continue, even if it is raining?

A: Got Guts is a rain or shine event! However, if lightning is present, we may delay the start of our events. Please check this Got Guts web site for last-minute weather updates.  top ⇑

Q: Can I run with a stroller?

A: Sure! But please be aware that the course does contain unpaved surfaces, so sturdier, off-road style strollers may be necessary. If you are running with a stroller, we do ask that you line up towards the back of the starting group to avoid tripping any runners who are trying to get a fast start.  top ⇑

Q: Can you tell me more about the kids 1k trail run?

A: The 1k trail run is for kids 12 years old and younger. We have created this special event for kids who want to participate but who may not be able to complete the entire 5k run or walk. The kids′ race will take place before the 5k so that you can cheer on your little ones beforehand. All 1k finishers will receive a ribbon.  top ⇑

Q: Will there be awards for the Got Guts race winners?

A: Yes, we have three award categories. Prizes will be awarded for the following:

  • 5k Overall Winners – Top 5 Males and Females
  • 5k Masters Winners (runners 40 years or older) – Top 5 Males and Females
  • 5k Kids Winners (runners 12 years or younger) – Top 5 Boys and Girls
All 1k finishers will receive a prize.  top ⇑

Q: How can I find out my official finish time?

A: Official times will be posted on the Got Guts web site. We expect to have the full results within one day after the race.  top ⇑

Q: I’m not a runner. Can I still participate in the Got Guts 5k?

A: Of course! We welcome people of all fitness and interest levels. This is a trail walk ⁄ run, so you can complete it at whatever pace is comfortable for you.

If running ⁄ walking is just not your thing, you can skip the race and simply register for the food fair.  top  ⇑

Q: Do you allow refunds?

A: We’re sorry, but we do not offer refunds.  top ⇑

Got Guts Gluten–Free Food Fair Questions

Q: Where will the Got Guts food fair take place?

A: The Got Guts Gluten–Free Food Fair will take place at the Walter E. Long Park — the same site as the 5K race.  top ⇑

Q: What time will the Gluten–Free Food Fair open?

A: The Gluten–Free Food Fair will open at 8:00 am. Enjoy some snacks and head over to the finish line so that you can cheer on your favorite runners!  top ⇑

Q: Where can I buy tickets for the Gluten–Free Food Fair and how much do they cost?

A: You can register online for the Food Fair or sign up on race day. Advanced purchase food fair tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Registered runners get in free. Prices increase by $5 on race day.  top ⇑

Q: What kind of food will you have at the Gluten–Free Food Fair?

A: The Got Guts sponsors will be offering a variety of gluten–free foods and beverages, including:

  • sausage
  • Vietnamese chicken salad lettuce wraps
  • nutrition bars
  • meal and snack food samples
  • and much more!

Got Guts Celiac Screening Questions

Q: Will there be Celiac Screening at Got Guts?

A: Thanks to a generous donation of screening tests by Prometheus Labs, we plan to offer Celiac screening for up to 300 participants at Got Guts this year! Screening will be available to registered participants at the event. Registration is currently open and early bird pricing is in effect until September 1. Check out our Registration information, including discounted pricing for kids.  top ⇑

Q: What do I need to do in order to receive screening at Got Guts? Is there an additional fee?

A: Other than registering for the Got Guts event, there is no additional fee for the screening. Register for any of the Got Guts event categories such as the run, walk, kids 1K run, or just the food fair. Registration page

Q: Where will the screening will be conducted?

A: Blood will be drawn at the Got Guts event on a first-come first-served basis. Results will be communicated to individual participants via mail or phone once the tests have been processed by Prometheus.  top ⇑

Q: I'm from out of town, can I still come to the Got Guts 5k and receive the screening?

A: Yes, you will receive your results via mail or phone.  top ⇑

Q: Why should I get screened for Celiac Disease?

A: If you have undiagnosed Celiac, you are at risk for developing serious health conditions and damaging your digestive system. Celiac Disease affects one in 133 Americans and most are not diagnosed. Many will have no symptoms.  top ⇑

Q: I'm a volunteer for Got Guts, can I receive Celiac screening?

A: Yes, although we do ask that you please register for the event in order to receive screening.  top ⇑

Q: What if I can't attend in person, but want to support the event?

A: If you cannot attend in person, you can still show support by selecting “donation” on our registration category portion of the registration form. You can also invite your out–of–town family members⁄friends who support your gluten–free lifestyle to donate online as well. Or you can mail a donation to: Got Guts 5K, P.O.
